Air Peace Launches MRO Facility to Boost Nigerian Aviation

Air Peace MRO facility launches in Lagos this September to enhance local aircraft maintenance and strengthen Nigeria’s aviation sector in partnership with Embraer

Air Peace MRO facility construction will begin this September in Lagos, marking a major leap forward for Nigeria’s aviation industry.

Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, made the announcement on Wednesday following his return from Brazil, where he accompanied President Bola Tinubu on an official diplomatic visit.

During the trip, Nigeria and Brazil signed a landmark air service agreement.

“By September 17, we are going to inaugurate the commencement of construction of our new MRO, and Embraer will operate maintenance for Embraer jets,” Onyema said.

The Air Peace MRO facility is being developed in collaboration with Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer.

The project is expected to be completed in 12 to 15 months and will eliminate the need to send Embraer aircraft overseas for routine maintenance, saving time and reducing operational costs.

“You will now be able to do it here, and people will also come to Nigeria to do the same,” Onyema added, highlighting the project’s regional impact.

This initiative is part of Air Peace’s broader strategy to deepen its partnership with Embraer and expand its international reach.

The airline’s endorsement to operate direct Nigeria–Brazil flights from Q3 2025 aligns with this vision.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, emphasized the strategic importance of the project, praising President Tinubu’s leadership in securing the agreement.

“Brazil is the biggest economy in South America, and Nigeria is considered the biggest in Africa. Connecting these two is vital,” Keyamo noted.

According to Onyema, the Air Peace MRO facility will also position Nigeria as a regional maintenance hub, attracting other African airlines and promoting job creation in the aviation sector.

With bilateral trade between Nigeria and Brazil having dropped from \$10 billion to \$2 billion over the last decade, the MRO project and direct flights are expected to rekindle economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
