2027: PDP Chieftain Cautions Monarchs Over Aspirant Endorsements

PDP chieftain reckless endorsements warning issued by Julius Ama Orji as he urges traditional rulers in Ebonyi to avoid political interference ahead of 2027

Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Chief Julius Ama Orji, has urged traditional rulers in the area to avoid what he described as reckless endorsements of political aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid rising tensions over the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency seat.

PDP talks about the reckless endorsements warning was issued on Friday in Abakaliki while Orji addressed journalists, where he cautioned monarchs against involvement in partisan politics that could undermine fairness and stability in the constituency.

Chief Orji insisted that equity demands the next representative of the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency should come from Edda Local Government Area, arguing that the area has been shortchanged in political representation since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

He maintained that calls for the continued occupation of the seat by Afikpo representatives were unfair to Edda people, stressing that it is now their turn to produce the next member of the House of Representatives.

The PDP stalwart was reacting to reports of an endorsement of the incumbent lawmaker, Idu Igariwey, by some monarchs from the Edda clan for a fourth term, a development he described as inappropriate and capable of deepening divisions.

He urged traditional rulers to focus on their constitutional role of preserving culture and ensuring peace, rather than engaging in political endorsements.

According to him, Afikpo Local Government Area has held the constituency seat for about 20 years, while Edda has only occupied it for eight years, a disparity he described as unjust and unacceptable.

Chief Orji further argued that past representation had failed to deliver meaningful development to the Edda area, alleging underperformance and lack of tangible democratic dividends.

He issued a strong appeal to stakeholders to halt what he described as continued political imbalance, warning that the situation must be corrected to ensure fairness and equity in the constituency.
