Dalung, a chieftain of the ADC, made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics on Friday, where he sharply criticised the electoral body’s conduct and its handling of legal and political matters.
He alleged that INEC had taken positions that were unfavourable to his party, describing the commission as behaving with bias and impunity in its operations.
“The worst of all, when we had INEC now declaring itself as the main opposition against the ADC, that was when we have the highest number of people joining the party,” Dalung said.
He further claimed that INEC had failed to act within the confines of the law, questioning the legal basis for some of its decisions and describing its conduct as lacking accountability.
Dalung also referenced a court ruling relating to internal party disputes, alleging that INEC had not complied with judicial pronouncements on the matter.
“There was a court verdict… but today INEC refused to obey that court order,” he added.
The comments add to ongoing political debates over the role and neutrality of electoral institutions in Nigeria’s democratic process.
