Lamido Says Joining ADC Was Not a Personal Decision

Sokoto senator ADC banditry reason revealed as Ibrahim Lamido says worsening insecurity in Sokoto East forced his defection to the ADC

Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Lamido, has said he joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to the escalating wave of banditry affecting communities across his constituency.

Sokoto Senator Gives Reason for ADC Defection Over Banditry was disclosed on Wednesday in Sokoto during an interaction with journalists, where Lamido explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with residents who continue to suffer repeated attacks by armed groups.

Lamido stated that his defection to the ADC was not driven by personal ambition but by collective concern from his constituents, many of whom, according to him, face daily killings, kidnappings and displacement.

He maintained that the worsening insecurity in Sokoto East left him with little choice but to align with a platform he believes could better address the crisis, despite ongoing legal issues within the party.

The senator emphasised that his decision reflects the frustrations of local communities who feel abandoned amid persistent attacks and a lack of effective security intervention.

Lamido also responded to recent remarks by Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who had reportedly claimed that security efforts in the region were yielding positive results.

While acknowledging government and security agencies’ efforts, the senator strongly disagreed with the assessment, insisting that the situation on the ground remains volatile and deeply concerning.

He said several communities continue to experience repeated assaults, resulting in significant loss of lives and displacement of residents.
