ADC factional chairman rejects controversial suspension strongly

Silas Onu ADC suspension dispute intensifies as Ebonyi factional chairman rejects expulsion and threatens legal action over alleged defamation

Factional Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State, Barrister Silas Onu, has rejected his reported suspension from the party, describing the action as baseless and legally questionable.

Onu insisted that the suspension, allegedly issued by officials in Obiozara Ward, was invalid and warned that those behind it would face legal consequences over what he described as defamatory claims.

The controversy stems from a letter reportedly signed by individuals identifying themselves as the Acting Chairman and Secretary of the ADC in Obiozara Ward, accusing Onu of financial misconduct and exploitation of party members.

In a strongly worded statement on Friday, Onu dismissed the allegations as an attempt to damage his reputation without justification, stating that legal action would be pursued against those responsible.

He said efforts were underway to identify the individuals behind the document so they could be served notice of a defamation suit and given the opportunity to substantiate their claims in court.

Onu further argued that the structure referenced in the suspension was non-existent, insisting that all wards in Ebonyi State had elected executives following party elections.

He maintained that Mr Godwin Njoku remains the legitimate Chairman of Obiozara Ward and rejected the legitimacy of any “acting” leadership at that level.

Reacting to the development, Chairman of ADC in Ohaozara Local Government Area, Engr. Chinedum Elekwachi, also dismissed the suspension notice, stating that the signatories were not recognised members of the party structure in the state.

He reaffirmed that the duly elected ward leadership remains intact and cautioned against actions capable of creating confusion within the party’s ranks.

The dispute highlights growing internal tensions within the ADC in Ebonyi State, as rival factions continue to contest authority and legitimacy within the party’s grassroots structure.
