Uzor Kalu Sworn In as National Assembly Service Commissioner by Tinubu

Uzor Kalu has been sworn in by President Tinubu as commissioner of the National Assembly Service Commission representing the South East zone for a five-year term

Uzor Kalu National Assembly Service Commission appointment was formalized on Thursday as President Bola Tinubu administered his oath of office at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja.

Kalu, who will represent the South East zone, took the oath shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

His confirmation by the Senate on May 20, 2025, came after the Senate adopted the Establishment and Public Service Committee’s report.

A petition filed against his nomination had earlier been reviewed and dismissed by the Senate’s Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions Committee.

The new commissioner, a younger brother of former Abia governor Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, is no stranger to national politics.

He previously served two terms in the House of Representatives, representing Aba North/Aba South during the 5th and 6th National Assemblies.

Kalu joins a new cohort of commissioners inaugurated on May 5, 2025, for a renewable five-year tenure.

His inclusion is seen as part of efforts to strengthen legislative operations and regional representation at the National Assembly Service Commission.

During the ceremony, the council observed a minute of silence in honour of Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, a former Minister of Police Affairs, who passed away in May at the age of 70.
