Abiodun Swears In 6 Permanent Secretaries for Ogun Reform

Abiodun swears in 6 permanent secretaries, urging them to uphold integrity, strengthen Ogun’s civil service and deliver effective governance

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on July 17, 2026, swore in six new permanent secretaries at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, charging the appointees to uphold the state’s public service values and contribute to effective governance.

The newly appointed permanent secretaries are Dr Solomon Sokunbi, Mr Abiodun Oladunjoye Akinwunmi, Mr Adedeji Sowunmi, Mr Olumide Ogunbo, Mr Dolamu Idowu-Agida and Tpl Musinat Ayodele.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Abiodun said the appointments reflected his administration’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and building a more efficient, responsive and results-driven civil and public service.

Abiodun swears in 6 permanent secretaries following a selection process based on merit, professionalism and inclusiveness, in line with Section 208(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

The governor urged the new permanent secretaries to demonstrate exemplary leadership, integrity, dedication and selflessness as they assume their responsibilities.

“The appointment is the celebration of merit over mediocrity, service over self-interest, excellence over expediency and character over convenience,” Abiodun said.

He added that his administration remained committed to creating a public service structure capable of serving future generations, stressing that strong institutions were essential for sustainable development.

Governor Abiodun congratulated the appointees, describing their elevation as the result of years of discipline, competence, integrity, diligence and commitment to public service rather than a ceremonial recognition.

He also praised Ogun State Head of Service, Mr Olarenwaju Saka, for his role in advancing reforms aimed at improving the state’s civil service system through strategic policies and leadership initiatives.

The governor said the appointments represented a continuation of efforts to promote professionalism, continuity and institutional excellence within government structures.

“This is the standard we have deliberately institutionalised because the future we seek cannot be built on anything less than excellence,” he stated.

The governor further linked the appointments to the administration’s Executive Leadership Development Pipeline Programme, which was designed to prepare senior officers for strategic leadership roles and ensure a structured succession process within the public service.
