Kefas Urges Taraba APC Candidates to Embrace Humility

Kefas Urges Taraba APC Candidates to embrace humility and reconciliation as he seeks unity among party members after internal disputes

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has urged All Progressives Congress candidates who secured the party’s tickets ahead of upcoming elections to remain humble and inclusive, warning that electoral victories should not create divisions within the party.

Governor Kefas made the call on Tuesday during a reconciliation dinner with APC stakeholders in Jalingo, describing the gathering as a family meeting aimed at healing tensions, rebuilding trust and strengthening unity among party members.

The governor acknowledged that the process surrounding his movement from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, alongside the party’s ward, local government and state congresses and subsequent primaries, had produced mixed reactions among stakeholders.

While some members were satisfied with the outcomes, others felt disappointed or sidelined during the political process.

“Wherever this happened, I sincerely regret the pain or misunderstanding that may have arisen,” Kefas said, adding that his actions were not intended to suppress political ambitions or undermine the contributions of party members.

He explained that some decisions were taken to prevent prolonged internal conflicts that could weaken the party and create deeper divisions among supporters.

The message centred on reconciliation, with the governor advising successful aspirants to reach out to those who lost in the primaries and ensure that every stakeholder remains part of the party’s future.

“No candidate can succeed alone,” Kefas said, urging elected candidates and party flag bearers to carry supporters and stakeholders along regardless of the outcome of internal contests.

The governor also appealed to unsuccessful aspirants to remain committed to the APC, assuring them that political opportunities extend beyond a single election cycle.

He pledged to continue consultations with party leaders across wards, local government areas, senatorial districts and the state, stressing that reconciliation must be a continuous process rather than a one-time event.

Kefas said building a stronger APC in Taraba would require more than political appointments, noting that respect, consultation, inclusion and recognition of party members were essential to lasting unity.

He called for an end to divisions between old and new members of the APC, insisting that the party should operate as one united structure in the state.

“There should be only one APC in Taraba State,” the governor said.

The governor also promised to maintain a leadership style based on humility, openness to criticism and wider engagement with stakeholders.

He urged party members to prioritise the interests of Taraba residents over personal disagreements.

According to Kefas, political competition should ultimately focus on improving citizens’ lives through stronger security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, electricity, employment and agricultural development.

He encouraged APC leaders, candidates and supporters to embrace forgiveness, rebuild trust and work together ahead of future elections.
