Sowore WAEC NECO fees pledge includes free public examinations and tuition from nursery to university if elected president in 2027
African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has pledged to abolish WAEC and NECO examination fees if elected president in the 2027 general election, unveiling an education policy that promises free schooling from nursery to university.

Presenting what he described as his administration’s education blueprint on Monday, Sowore said access to quality education should never depend on a family’s financial circumstances, arguing that every Nigerian child deserves an equal opportunity to learn.
The former presidential candidate said a government led by him would remove the financial burden associated with public examinations and expand access to education across all levels.
“No government under a #Sowore2027 administration will ask your child to pay WAEC, NECO, or any other public examination fee. Education will be free because knowledge is a right, not a privilege,” Sowore said.
Beyond scrapping examination fees, Sowore said his proposed policy would guarantee free, high-quality education from early childhood through university.
The plan includes investment in modern classrooms, virtual learning infrastructure, improved welfare for teachers, student grants and equal educational opportunities nationwide.
“Our revolutionary education policy guarantees free, high-quality education from early childhood through university, backed by modern classrooms, virtual learning, well-paid teachers, student grants, and equal opportunities for every Nigerian child,” he added.
The proposal comes as the cost of education continues to generate public debate in Nigeria, with rising examination and school expenses placing additional pressure on many households. Over the years, federal and state governments have introduced different interventions to support education, although candidates have frequently proposed broader reforms during election campaigns.
Sowore, who has consistently campaigned on governance reforms, anti-corruption and expanded social services, described the education proposal as more than a campaign pledge.
“This is not a promise of politics. It is a revolutionary commitment to build a nation where no child’s future is determined by poverty. Read it. Share it. Debate it. Join the movement to make it a reality,” he said.
The proposal forms part of the AAC’s early policy agenda as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
