Author Omole identifies five cabals in Tinubu government

Charles Omole identifies five cabals in President Tinubu’s government, citing key figures including Femi Gbajabiamila, Nyesom Wike, and Seyi Tinubu

Author Charles Omole has claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is influenced by at least five cabals, highlighting key figures including the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu.

Omole, whose book From Soldier to Statesman – The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari was recently unveiled in Abuja, made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

“The president will always have people around him. But you need to put systems in place to avoid state capture or presidential capture because, for example, the current government has, from what I can see, at least five cabals within the presidency,” Omole said.

He explained that one of the cabals is headed directly by the president himself.

Among the other groups, Omole identified the Chief of Staff faction, which includes Gbajabiamila, Wike, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; a group associated with Seyi Tinubu, consisting of individuals he helped appoint; and a group around the First Lady, Remi Tinubu.

Omole’s commentary comes shortly after the release of his book, which explores governance and leadership challenges during the administrations of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The author noted that cabals in Buhari’s government influenced even daily routines, including curated newspapers designed to shape the former president’s perspective.

Buhari, a Katsina-born politician, ruled Nigeria as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023 and died in London on 13 July 2025 at the age of 82.
