Mai Mala Buni, who also previously served as Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, stated this during an exclusive interview, where he addressed internal reconciliation efforts and the party’s readiness ahead of the next election cycle.
APC Strengthens Unity Ahead of 2027 Polls, according to Buni, has been driven by the need to integrate new entrants into the party while maintaining cohesion among long-standing members.
He explained that the party has recorded a significant influx of governors, lawmakers and political stakeholders from opposition parties, describing the development as a major boost to the APC’s national strength.
Buni noted that the challenge for the ruling party is not only expansion but also effective management of diverse political interests, adding that the reconciliation committee was established to resolve tensions and prevent internal divisions.
He said consultations with key stakeholders had already yielded positive results, with improved collaboration among previously divided political actors at ward, local government, state and zonal levels.
According to him, the recent congresses and national convention of the APC demonstrated growing consensus within the party, a development he described as evidence of increasing stability and organisational maturity.
Buni expressed confidence that the APC would approach the 2027 general elections as a united political force, stressing that reconciliation efforts were ongoing and continuous.
He also addressed concerns over insecurity, drawing from his experience as governor of Yobe State, a region affected by long-standing insurgency challenges linked to Boko Haram.
Buni acknowledged that insecurity remains a national concern, urging stronger collaboration between citizens and security agencies to address the situation effectively.
He commended the efforts of security personnel and local support groups, noting that sustained cooperation had contributed to relative improvements in stability across affected communities.
On economic concerns, Buni said national development cannot be achieved in an environment of insecurity, adding that ongoing reforms by the Tinubu administration require stability to yield meaningful results.
He called for national unity beyond political, ethnic and religious divisions, insisting that collective action is necessary to secure and strengthen the country.
Buni further dismissed claims of widespread northern opposition to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, describing such narratives as politically motivated and not representative of the region.
He argued that political disagreements were often driven by personal ambition rather than genuine regional sentiment, urging Nigerians to focus on national interest.
