Agboola Ajayi Declares Ambitious Ondo Senate Bid

Agboola Ajayi announces Ondo Senate Bid for 2027, citing experience, fairness, and unfinished development projects in Ondo South

Former Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, on Tuesday in Akure, Ondo State, publicly declared his intention to contest the Ondo South senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, positioning his ambition as a decisive step grounded in extensive governance experience and a promise of renewed development focus.

Speaking before political stakeholders and journalists, Agboola Ajayi said his bid for the Senate forms part of a broader commitment to address what he described as lingering development gaps in Ondo South, stressing that his long political journey gives him a compelling advantage over other aspirants.

The former deputy governor stated that his political career, spanning grassroots administration and national legislative experience, places him in a strong position to represent the district effectively in the National Assembly.

He described his ambition as a “powerful responsibility” to complete unfinished development projects and strengthen the region’s political voice.

“I have been in this system from the grassroots. I have served as councillor, supervisor for works, local government chairman, member of the House of Representatives, and Deputy Governor,” Agboola Ajayi said.

“So, I have seen governance at every level. I believe that experience is what our people need at this time.”

He added that consultations with stakeholders across Ondo State informed his decision, noting that growing calls for experienced representation in the Senate had shaped his political direction ahead of 2027.

Agboola Ajayi further anchored his ambition on equity considerations within Ondo South, arguing that fairness should guide political representation across the senatorial district.

He maintained that one of the local government areas within his political base has never produced a senator, describing the situation as politically unjust.

“Out of the six local governments in Ondo South, mine is the only one that has not produced a senator. By all political calculations and fairness, it is our turn,” he said.

In what appeared to be a firm message to rivals, Agboola Ajayi dismissed speculation of political tension with the incumbent senator representing the district, Jimoh Ibrahim, insisting that their relationship remained cordial despite political differences.

He also addressed internal dynamics within the All Progressives Congress (APC), rejecting fears of imposition and affirming confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes, including primaries where necessary.

“The party has guidelines, consensus where possible, and if not, primaries. No single individual can impose a candidate. That is not possible in Ondo State,” he said.

Describing himself as a unifying figure, Agboola Ajayi urged political stakeholders in Ondo State to prioritise development over division, warning that the region risks falling behind other South-West states if internal rivalries persist.

He expressed optimism about his chances in the race, arguing that political popularity, experience, and constituency connection remain critical factors in electoral success.

“The Senate is not a place for trial and error. It requires people who understand governance, legislation, and national dynamics,” he said.

Agboola Ajayi also lamented that several developmental projects initiated during his tenure in office were left unfinished, pledging to revisit them if elected to the Senate in 2027.
