The remark immediately sparked laughter among participants, with the former party chairman acknowledging the slip in a light-hearted manner.
He joked afterward that he needed something strong to “take that out of his system,” drawing further amusement from attendees at the event.
The incident quickly gained traction online, prompting a response from presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who commented on the matter via social media platform X.
Onanuga suggested that Oyegun remained emotionally tied to his former party, the All Progressives Congress, despite his current political alignment with the African Democratic Congress.
He described the ADC as a weaker platform compared to the APC, a remark that further fuelled political debate online.
Oyegun, a former APC national chairman, has recently aligned himself with the ADC ahead of ongoing political realignments in the country.
