This follows the recent resignation of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down on 27 June.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who chairs the Progressives Governors Forum, made the nomination.

His motion was seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas.

The decision was confirmed during the ongoing NEC meeting at the Presidential Villa.

Professor Yiltwada, who currently serves as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, brings a diverse range of experience to the role.

A native of Plateau State, he was appointed to the ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024.

Before entering politics, he had a long career in academia and public service. Between 2017 and 2021, he was the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue State.

His earlier experience includes serving as ICT Director at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, where he developed a decade-long ICT strategy.

“I am honoured by this appointment and fully aware of the responsibility it carries. We must build a stronger and more united party,” Yiltwada said after his nomination was accepted.

He ran for governor of Plateau State in the 2023 elections on the APC ticket and coordinated the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign in the state.
