Speaking at the National Stakeholders Dialogue on Power in the Health Sector in Abuja, the President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen.
George Akume, described power failures in hospitals as a national emergency that costs lives and compromises medical outcomes.
“Power outages in maternity wards, surgical theatres, and ICUs are unacceptable,” the President stated firmly.
“These failures compromise patient safety and must be addressed immediately.”
With a focus on sustainable energy solutions, Tinubu emphasized that transforming the power supply to medical facilities is critical to restoring public trust in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
President Tinubu announced that the health sector energy reform is not an isolated project but a core component of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Key actions outlined include:
- Expanding off-grid solar and hybrid systems for critical health infrastructure
- Creating private sector incentives and fiscal support frameworks
- Promoting public-private partnerships for energy delivery
- Leveraging blended finance to attract global and local investment
“We are building a cleaner, more resilient, and decentralized energy system for healthcare,” he said.
Tinubu assured the international business community that Nigeria remains open for investment in the health, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
He promised an enabling environment for returns on investment through policy stability and incentives.
The National Dialogue, he added, marks a launchpad for strategic collaboration across public and private sectors to make Nigerian hospitals more energy-secure.
The Tinubu Health Sector Power Reform could be the turning point for Nigeria’s fragile healthcare system.
