Gunmen attack the convoy of Osun APC candidate Asiwaju Oyebamiji’s wife, Sekinat, leaving one person injured ahead of the governorship election
Gunmen have attacked the convoy of Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, in Ede South Local Government Area, less than two weeks before the state’s governorship election.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening, 2 August 2026, shortly after Mrs Oyebamiji concluded a political engagement in Alajue Ward 2, where she met with residents and party supporters ahead of the 15 August governorship poll.
Mrs Oyebamiji was accompanied during the visit by Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaji Kayode Adereti.
According to reports, about 15 armed men attacked the convoy at approximately 7 p.m. as it departed the venue of the political programme.
Mrs Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti were said to have escaped the attack without injury.
However, one member of the convoy reportedly sustained serious injuries during the incident.
The injured victim was identified as the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, who reportedly suffered severe head injuries and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The motive for the attack had not been officially established at the time of reporting, and there was no immediate confirmation from security agencies regarding arrests or the identity of those responsible.
The attack comes amid heightened political activities across the state as parties intensify campaigns ahead of the governorship election.
Election periods in Nigeria often witness increased security deployments, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies regularly urging political actors and their supporters to conduct campaigns peacefully and avoid acts capable of undermining the electoral process.

Authorities are expected to investigate the latest incident as stakeholders continue to call for a peaceful and violence-free election in Osun State.
