Oyo APC Condemns Abduction of Adelabu Sister in Shock

Oyo APC condemns Adelabu sister abduction, urges urgent rescue of victims after gunmen kidnapped ex-minister’s sister and twin sons in Ibadan

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Nigeria, on Wednesday, strongly condemned the abduction of Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, the state capital, in a shocking dawn attack that has intensified concerns over insecurity in the region.

The party’s reaction followed the early morning incident in which armed men reportedly trailed the victims’ vehicle and intercepted them at Elewura-Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area at about 7.30am before whisking them away to an unknown destination.

In a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Olawale Sadare, the party described the abduction as deeply disturbing and called for urgent, coordinated action by security agencies to secure the immediate release of the victims.

Sadare urged Governor Seyi Makinde to work more closely with security agencies and relevant stakeholders, warning that the rising wave of kidnappings in the state required a more aggressive and unified response from all levels of government.

He noted that the latest incident occurred against the backdrop of unresolved abductions, including schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, as well as two staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria in the Idi-Ayunre axis of Oluyole Local Government Area.

The Oyo APC condemns Adelabu sister abduction statement also referenced earlier security breaches in the state, insisting that residents were increasingly living in fear as violent attacks and kidnappings persist across communities.

According to reports, the attackers allegedly monitored the movement of the victims from their residence before striking, a detail that has further raised concerns about the level of surveillance and intelligence gaps in the state’s security framework.

The APC warned that the security situation had become unacceptable and called for immediate intervention to prevent further deterioration.

The statement read in part that authorities at federal, state, and local levels must urgently review the security architecture of Oyo State to close identified loopholes and guarantee protection of lives and property regardless of status or background.

The party further demanded the immediate rescue of all abducted persons currently in captivity, including victims from the Oriire school attack, CRIN staff members, and Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul and her children.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that investigations had commenced into the incident, urging residents to remain calm while security operatives work to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims.

The abduction adds to a growing list of security incidents in the state, including a previous high-profile case involving an APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, who was kidnapped in Ibadan in December 2025.

Eyewitness accounts of that earlier incident described a coordinated attack involving armed men in a vehicle who abducted the victim in a swift operation that has continued to raise questions about the boldness of criminal groups operating in the state.
