Kebbi Gov creates new district, appoints two rulers

The newly created Buma District was carved out of the existing Dolekaina District in Dandi Local Government Area and comprises eight village areas.

Governor Idris appointed Alhaji Salisu Hakimi as the District Head of Buma.

The eight village areas under the new district are Tunga Rafi, Gamana, Tudunsan, Gillare, Bump Town, Goraro, Bukki and Alfarma Kwara.

The governor also approved the creation of a new village headship in Augie Local Government Area.

Nasiru Umar Maizabo was appointed as the Village Head of Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District, Augie Local Government Area.

The approvals were announced in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari.

Dutsinmari said the decisions were made under the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which provide the legal framework for creating districts and appointing district heads.

The commissioner described the appointments as responsibilities entrusted to the new traditional rulers based on their previous records.

“Your appointments were made based on your past records. Be rest assured of the Governor’s and the Ministry’s support and cooperation,” Dutsinmari said.

He urged the newly appointed rulers to approach their responsibilities with discipline, honesty, transparency and dedication.

The creation of Buma District is expected to bring traditional administrative structures closer to the communities within the newly defined area.

Traditional institutions continue to play an important role in grassroots administration in many parts of Nigeria, particularly in community leadership, mediation and maintaining local cohesion.

For the affected communities in Dandi and Augie, the changes are therefore expected to provide a more defined administrative structure and strengthen engagement between traditional authorities and residents.

The Kebbi Government said the latest decisions were part of broader efforts to improve grassroots governance and reinforce traditional institutions across the state.

The appointments also place new responsibilities on Hakimi and Maizabo as they begin their roles in their respective communities.
