In a strongly worded statement released Sunday, Dr. Olaposi Ogini, National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), condemned remarks by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, accusing the former presidential candidate of inciting division.

Kwankwaso had alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s government was sidelining the North in road infrastructure development.

The NNPP, however, described his claims as “baseless” and “unprovoked,” pointing to verified data showing the North benefits from the highest number of federal road projects.

“It is unfortunate that a former senator and ex-minister would make such unsubstantiated remarks capable of causing unrest,” the statement read.

The party emphasized that Kwankwaso’s history of controversial statements and actions was among the reasons for his expulsion from the NNPP, which has since faced legal and reputational battles due to his rhetoric.

NNPP urged Northern youths to examine both government project records and Kwankwaso’s own track record in public office.

They also noted that Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, had already debunked the claims, affirming that the North currently hosts the most ongoing federal road projects in the country.
