Bolaji Abdullahi Says ADC’s Political Coalition Faces Setback as Governors Stay Away in Fear

ADC’s political coalition struggles to attract serving governors due to fear of intimidation, despite support from top Nigerian opposition leaders

ADC’s political coalition ambitions are facing early resistance, as serving governors hesitate to join the movement due to what party leaders describe as political intimidation.

Speaking at the third expanded meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North) in Abuja, Bolaji Abdullahi, interim national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said fear is silencing willing political actors.

“We know that no serving governor will want to come to us now because of the kind of intimidation they are facing,” Abdullahi said, accusing political powers of orchestrating a “conspiracy against the Nigerian people.”

Despite its high-profile launch on July 1—with political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir el-Rufai—the ADC political coalition has yet to secure the backing of a single sitting governor.

Abdullahi insisted the ADC isn’t being built around personal ambitions but as a true alternative platform.

“The party is not for anyone’s ambition. It’s a movement driven by the will of the Nigerian majority,” he emphasized.

He also assured that the coalition remains open to all who share its mission, asserting that it won’t be hijacked by internal or external political interests.

The meeting focused on addressing the north’s regional issues, with plans underway for a similar engagement in the south.
