Seyi Tinubu qualified for Lagos governorship, says Bwala, citing his humility, youth outreach, and political maturity beyond his father’s influence
Seyi Tinubu qualified for Lagos governorship, according to the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, who insists the president’s son has earned his own political stripes.

Speaking in a recent interview on The Clarity Zone podcast, Bwala dismissed widespread criticism that Seyi’s political visibility is merely a product of privilege.
He argued that the younger Tinubu has demonstrated personal credibility, humility, and influence among Nigeria’s youth.
“If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor?” Bwala asked pointedly.
“Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election.”
Bwala described Seyi as a humble and unassuming figure who, despite his background, has kept close ties with youth leaders and advocates across party lines.
He noted that Seyi has helped place young Nigerians in key roles within and beyond government circles.
In a striking example, Bwala claimed Seyi was once criticised for assisting individuals known to be aligned with the opposition movement, the Obidients.
“That tells you he doesn’t have biases,” he said.
Bwala also shared his personal relationship with Seyi Tinubu, revealing that even after criticising the administration publicly, their relationship remained unaffected — a sign, he said, of Seyi’s maturity and political tolerance.
Notably, Bwala contrasted Seyi’s public conduct with that of many children of former Nigerian leaders. “You will never see him attacking people on social media,” he stated.
“Even though his father is one of the most vilified in recent memory, Seyi has built relationships even with critics of this government.”
He concluded by urging Nigerians to form their opinions based on personal encounters rather than inherited perceptions. “Until you experience somebody, don’t have an opinion of them,” he said.

Bwala’s remarks come amid increasing speculation about a possible political future for Seyi Tinubu, with some already eyeing him for higher office — though no formal declarations have been made.
