Babajide Sanwo-Olu Mourns tragic Afriland Fire Losses

Babajide Sanwo-Olu Afriland fire response has sparked national attention, as the Lagos State Governor expressed deep condolences following the devastating blaze that struck Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos Island.

The inferno, which engulfed the six-storey commercial building and spread to parts of the Central Plaza near Mandilas Market, claimed several lives and left properties worth millions destroyed.

In his statement, Sanwo-Olu called the incident “unfortunate and shocking,” acknowledging the immense human and economic loss.

Notably, he sympathised with Federal Inland Revenue Service and United Capital PLC, who lost four and six employees, respectively.

“It is with a heavy heart that I received news of the fire outbreak,” he said, while extending prayers to the injured and grieving families.

The Babajide Sanwo-Olu Afriland fire tragedy prompted the Governor to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to stricter fire safety protocols and emergency readiness across Lagos.

He assured affected traders at the Central Plaza of government support in their recovery efforts.

Emergency services, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and the Federal Fire Service, were commended for their rapid intervention, which helped curb the scale of destruction and saved lives.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu also reacted, offering condolences to the families of the victims and hailing first responders for their swift action.

He called for improved training and vigilance to avoid similar disasters in future.
