Senate appoints Dankwambo PAC chairman as Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo takes over Public Accounts Committee in a move to boost accountability
The Nigerian Senate on Thursday announced Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, representing Gombe North under the Peoples Democratic Party Peoples Democratic Party, as the new Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee following the exit of Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada to the All Progressives Congress All Progressives Congress.

The Senate appoints Dankwambo PAC chairman decision was confirmed during plenary in Abuja, in line with the chamber’s longstanding practice of assigning the oversight committee to a member of the opposition.
The appointment is part of efforts to strengthen legislative oversight and improve transparency in the management of public finances.
According to a statement issued by the Senate spokesman, Malam Farouk Yarma, the Public Accounts Committee remains central to scrutinising government expenditure and reviewing audit reports across ministries and agencies.
Senator Dankwambo, a former Governor of Gombe State and former Accountant-General of the Federation, brings extensive experience in public finance, taxation and governance to the role.
His appointment has been described within the Senate as a strategic move aimed at reinforcing accountability mechanisms and restoring public confidence in legislative oversight functions.
Before assuming his new position, Dankwambo chaired the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, where he was noted for active engagement in policy reviews.
Yarma stated that the Senate remains committed to transparency and responsible governance, stressing that leadership adjustments within committees are essential for maintaining institutional efficiency.
