SDP Imo State Leadership Rebuilt with 17-Member Caretaker Committee

SDP Imo State leadership dissolved and replaced with a 17-member Caretaker Committee to reorganize the party and prepare for upcoming elections

SDP Imo State leadership has been overhauled as the national Social Democratic Party (SDP) dissolves the existing State Working Committee and establishes a 17-member Caretaker Committee to oversee party affairs for the next 90 days.

The directive, conveyed in a letter signed by National Secretary Dr. Olu Agunloye, cited reports on the activities within the State Chapter as justification for the change.

“The National Working Committee has considered reports on the activities within the Imo State Chapter and has, accordingly, dissolved the State Working Committee… and constituted a Caretaker Committee,” the letter stated.

Engineer Augustine Okere was appointed Acting State Chairman, while Comrade Onyekachi Asonye was named Acting State Secretary.

The committee has been mandated to reorganize the chapter, recruit fresh members particularly youths and women ensure regular meetings and events, and provide monthly activity reports to the National Vice Chairman, SE, and the National Chairman.

The 17-member Caretaker Committee also includes Chief Raymond Egenti as Deputy Chairman, Comrade Chijioke Onuoha as Vice Chairman 1, Chief Innocent Ekejiu as Vice Chairman 2, and Tony Duru as Vice Chairman 3.

Other key members are Don Ubah (Publicity Secretary), Shanahan Nnadi (Legal Adviser), Princess Ifeoma Bassey (Organizing Secretary), Obinna Oguneme (Youth Leader), and Amaka Osunde (Woman Leader).

Dr. Agunloye emphasized that the committee’s tenure will be 90 days or as determined by the NWC and instructed members to familiarize themselves with the party’s constitution and policies, noting that the appointments take immediate effect.

Copies of the letter were sent to key institutions, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Imo State Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the DSS, and the State Independent Electoral Commission, ensuring full compliance and transparency.

The Caretaker Committee is expected to restore credibility to the SDP Imo State Chapter and strengthen its operations ahead of future elections.
