APC Restricts Ministers, Appointees to Home-State Rallies

Campaign council directs appointees to focus on grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has directed ministers, political appointees and members of its 2027 campaign council to attend presidential campaign rallies only in their respective home states.

The directive, contained in a circular dated Tuesday and signed by the Director-General of the council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, outlines guidelines for participation in the party’s campaign activities across the states and geopolitical zones.

The circular, addressed to directors and heads of directorates, said the guidelines were intended to ensure proper coordination of campaign activities and strengthen the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general election.

It explained that the rallies were designed to mobilise support for the APC at the state and zonal levels while communicating the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to voters.

Under the new arrangement, ministers and other political appointees are required to attend only rallies organised in their home states.

The council also directed them to concentrate on grassroots mobilisation across polling units, wards and local government areas in line with the party’s campaign strategy.

Members of the Presidential Campaign Council are similarly expected to attend rallies in their home states and focus on implementing the approved work plans of their respective directorates.

The circular further instructed directorates without specific responsibilities at campaign rallies to concentrate on their assigned duties and approved budgets rather than participate in activities outside their designated roles.

For members of the APC National Working Committee, the council directed them to focus on party responsibilities and mobilisation efforts within their respective states and geopolitical zones.

However, the directive provides exceptions for the National Chairman, National Secretary, National Women’s Leader, National Youth Leader and National Organising Secretary, who are not bound by the home-state restriction placed on other members of the committee.

The campaign council also said it intended to give greater prominence to the party’s legislative candidates during rallies, including candidates contesting seats in state assemblies, the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The directive comes amid preparations for the 2027 general election and the party’s nationwide campaign activities.

President Tinubu had earlier said he would not attend every APC campaign rally, citing the demands of governance and the need to attend to the country’s financial obligations and economic responsibilities.

During the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on October 14, the President asked party officials to lead mobilisation efforts across the country while he continued to discharge his duties as head of state.

The APC subsequently released a proposed nationwide campaign timetable, with Tinubu expected to personally attend rallies in 12 states, while other party leaders would coordinate activities in the remaining locations.
