Dickson Says APC Is Not NDC’s Enemy Ahead of 2027

Seriake Dickson says the APC is not the NDC’s enemy ahead of the 2027 elections, urging peaceful campaigns and credible polls

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not an enemy of his party, urging political leaders and their supporters to embrace peaceful campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dickson made the declaration in a statement shared on his social media platforms on Monday, October 26, 2026, following the inauguration of the NDC’s National Campaign Council in Abuja.

“To our brothers in the APC, I say again that you are not our enemies,” the former Bayelsa State governor stated.

He said political differences should be resolved through democratic engagement, allowing Nigerians to decide which party deserves their votes in the forthcoming elections.

Despite his conciliatory message, Dickson challenged the APC to account for its performance since it assumed power in 2015.

He questioned whether Nigerians were safer and better off under the ruling party, arguing that the 2027 elections would provide an opportunity for voters to assess the government’s record.

His remarks set out the NDC’s intention to challenge the APC through political debate and electoral competition rather than hostility between party members and supporters.

The NDC has also criticised the defection of some of its candidates to the APC, describing the development as evidence, in the party’s view, of growing pressure within the ruling party ahead of the elections.

Dickson urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the 2027 general elections are free, fair and credible.

He also warned security personnel against allowing themselves to be used in ways that could undermine voters’ choices.

The NDC leader said the electoral process must reflect the will of Nigerians, regardless of the political parties involved.

The NDC’s activities in Abuja on Monday included a National Executive Committee meeting, the inauguration of its new national secretariat and the formal unveiling of its National Campaign Council.

Those in attendance included the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other party leaders.

Dickson expressed confidence in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, saying the NDC would take its message to Nigerians across the country.

His comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the next general elections, with issues including security, economic conditions, governance and the credibility of the electoral process expected to feature prominently in campaigns.
