Bright Ngene Enugu South Victory Hailed Amid Electoral Turmoil

In a statement signed by APC State Chairman Barr Ugochukwu Agballah, the party commended the presence of Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, during the rerun, which helped prevent manipulation by vested interests.

APC also acknowledged the efforts of Labour Party’s Sen Kelvin Chukwu, APC’s Hon. Chimobi Atu and Hon. Paul Nnamchi, along with state executives of both APC and LP, for defending the franchise of the people.

Ngene was officially declared winner on Tuesday, August 19, by INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun, after two re-run elections ordered by the Election Petition Appeal Tribunals.

Despite disruptions in eight polling units during the August 16 rerun, Ngene polled 5,862 votes against 2,000 votes for PDP’s Sam Ngene, while zero votes were recorded in the affected units.

Addressing the victory, APC State Chairman Agballah recalled past rigging experiences and praised the electorate for standing firm.

“What happened in Enugu South is what we should do; people should come out in their thousands and defend their franchise irrespective of party affiliation,” he said.

Agballah pledged APC’s continued support for Bright Ngene in his legal battle to secure his seat, which has remained vacant for over two years due to electoral disputes.

Ngene, who is currently serving a seven-year sentence over alleged community development fund irregularities, remains a figure of political interest, with many observers believing the legal challenges are politically motivated in connection with the House of Assembly seat.
