The announcement was made on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Social Democratic Party in Akure, the state capital.
State chairman Gbenga Akinbuli, in a communiqué, explained that Akinyan was found culpable of “acts of sabotage during elections, insubordination, and financial misconduct,” stressing that his actions breached the party’s collective trust.
“In the wisdom of stakeholders, such behaviour cannot coexist with the principles of loyalty and ideological conviction which the SDP stands for,” Akinbuli said.
To probe the matter further, the party constituted a five-man disciplinary committee chaired by the State Legal Adviser, which will determine Akinyan’s continued membership in the party.
Meanwhile, Mr. Femi Ikoyi has been appointed as the new state secretary to replace Akinyan.
Akinbuli told reporters that the move was not only disciplinary but also a strategic step toward repositioning the party.
“This is the beginning of a broader effort to purge the SDP of sabotage and infiltration.
We are determined to build a party of conviction and loyalty, one that offers Nigerians a true alternative rooted in service to the people.”
