In a statement shared via his official X handle on Tuesday, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate described the escalating attacks on soldiers, police officers, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and vigilante groups as both tragic and unacceptable.

“The country has been thrown into mourning yet again with the reported tragic killings of our security personnel,” Obi wrote.

“Our men and women in uniform have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, dedicating their lives to the safety and stability of our dear nation.”

The Peter Obi security personnel killings statement included a firm call to leaders at every level to take urgent action to better equip and motivate security forces, noting that national security must form the foundation of effective governance.

He lamented that Nigeria cannot continue to bury its protectors while neglecting their dependents.

“Our government must rise to the responsibility of ensuring that the wives, children, and parents of these fallen heroes are fairly compensated and supported.

That is the least a grateful nation can provide. It is not charity, it is justice,” he added.

Obi also offered heartfelt prayers for the slain officers and extended his solidarity to their grieving families.
