Speaking on The Clarity Zone Podcast released Wednesday, Bwala accused the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate of overstating his charitable contributions and lacking any real commitment to labour or grassroots causes.
“Peter Obi is a billionaire, multi-billionaire,” Bwala said.
“There is no record that Peter has floated a foundation, a school, or anything in the public interest. Not a single one.”
He downplayed reports of Obi’s donations, claiming the former Anambra governor has never given more than ₦50 million and mocked the quality of boreholes he reportedly funded in Northern Nigeria, calling them “caveman days boreholes.”
Bwala didn’t stop at Obi’s philanthropy. He launched into a broader ideological critique, stating: “Peter Obi is a capitalist by nature.
There is nothing resembling socialism around him. Yet he ran under a socialist platform.”
He further alleged that Obi has no history of supporting workers’ struggles, union activism or student protests — key tenets of the Labour Party.
“Even during EndSARS, was he there?” he asked rhetorically.
Referencing Obi’s strong appeal to Nigeria’s youth and religious communities during the 2023 campaign, Bwala compared his populist style to that of Donald Trump.
“He saw that the youth were angry and rode on that.
They even said ‘we no dey give shishi,’ and they sponsored themselves,” he said.
Bwala also mocked Obi’s disappearance from religious events post-election, saying, “He was at every church during the campaign.
Holy Ghost night, prophetic prayers… but after the election, he’s gone. He no dey go Shiloh again.”
Despite Bwala’s claims, public records and media reports indicate Obi has made multiple philanthropic donations.
In 2024 alone, Obi donated ₦70 million to educational and healthcare causes in Anambra, as well as ₦20 million to a mission hospital in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Still, the Daniel Bwala Peter Obi criticism has ignited debate, with supporters defending Obi’s track record and opponents questioning the authenticity of his populist messaging.
