NDU Appoints Gbaramatu Monarch Advisory Council Chairman

Oboro Gbaraun II will lead the advisory council of the university’s Institute for Niger Delta Studies.

Niger Delta University, NDU, has appointed the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro Gbaraun II, as Chairman of the Advisory Council of its Institute for Niger Delta Studies.

The appointment places the traditional ruler at the head of a council expected to provide guidance on research and initiatives addressing major challenges affecting the Niger Delta region.

The Institute for Niger Delta Studies focuses on issues connected to the region and provides a platform for research into its environmental, socio-economic and cultural conditions.

The advisory council is expected to help strengthen the institute’s research direction and ensure that its work remains relevant to the realities facing communities across the Niger Delta.

The region continues to grapple with environmental degradation, economic challenges and other socio-cultural issues, making research and evidence-based interventions important to efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development.

Gbaraun II’s involvement is also expected to provide a traditional leadership perspective to the institute’s work, particularly on issues affecting local communities and their relationship with the environment.

The appointment further brings together the university’s academic research capacity and traditional institution in addressing issues affecting the Niger Delta.

The council will guide the institute as it develops research and related initiatives aimed at deepening understanding of the region’s challenges and supporting practical solutions.
