The NDC has accused the APC of offering money and political appointments to induce opposition members to defect to the ruling party
The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of offering financial inducements and political appointments to opposition members in a bid to facilitate their defection to the ruling party.

The NDC made the allegation in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, following the defection of some members of the opposition party.
The party described the alleged inducements as a desperate attempt by the APC to weaken the opposition, insisting that it would not be distracted by what it called the ruling party’s tactics.
According to the NDC, the APC had “resorted to offering money, political appointments, and other material incentives” to convince some of its members to defect.
The party alleged that those who had chosen to leave lacked the values, virtues and ideological commitment associated with the NDC.
“To them, we say good riddance to bad rubbish, and we wish them luck in their political misadventures,” Director said.
The NDC also announced plans to conduct fresh congresses in constituencies affected by the defections.
It said the exercise would produce new candidates to replace those who had left the party, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
“In line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, the party will immediately conduct fresh congresses to elect credible, competent, and trustworthy candidates to replace the defectors in the affected constituencies,” the statement said.
The opposition party urged its members and supporters not to be discouraged by the defections, maintaining that the alleged inducements would not undermine its political structure.
“We wish to reassure our teeming party members, supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians not to be perturbed by the antics of the ruling party in bribing a few of our members,” it added.
The NDC further described the alleged move by the APC as “the last kicks of a dying horse”, claiming that the ruling party was already aware of its potential defeat.
The development follows the resignation of the NDC governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Ibrahim Kashim, who is expected to join the APC alongside his supporters.

The NDC’s allegations of bribery and inducement are claims made by the opposition party, while the APC’s response was not contained in the statement.
