Speaking in an interview on Monday, Sowunmi said Adebayo represents the kind of prepared, articulate, and ideologically grounded leadership the country urgently needs.
“People like Adebayo fit into the category of being given a chance,” he remarked, urging Nigerians to open political space to competent younger leaders with fresh ideas.
Sowunmi, who leads the civic platform The Alternative, emphasised that democracy should extend beyond partisanship, focusing instead on results, competence, and national development.
He noted that leadership renewal is vital to prevent power from circulating endlessly within the same political class.
Highlighting Nigeria’s complex political landscape, Sowunmi argued that credible emerging leaders should not be sidelined simply because they operate outside dominant party structures.
He called on citizens to vote responsibly and prioritise competence, asserting, “The best among us should lead the rest of us.”

Political analysts say Sowunmi’s remarks reinforce growing confidence in younger politicians like Adebayo, whose prominence reflects a broader generational shift in Nigerian governance and political engagement.
