ADC Coalition Demands Party Defections Ahead of 2027 Polls

ADC Coalition 2027 Elections push sees top opposition leaders pressured to defect, as ADC eyes major gains ahead of Nigeria’s next general election.

ADC Coalition 2027 Elections campaign has taken a bold turn as the African Democratic Congress formally demanded that opposition figures sever ties with their current political parties and fully align with the ADC platform.

The announcement, made in Abuja by ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, follows a high-level caucus meeting involving senior political leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors, and party executives.

Despite no official deadline being set, the directive has sparked fresh debate among Nigeria’s political elite, with both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dismissing the move as inconsequential.

According to Abdullahi, “Though final order has been given to all members to resign membership of other political parties, the caucus was silent on the timeline.”

He also confirmed that all presidential hopefuls within the coalition have agreed to support whoever emerges as the ADC’s flag bearer through internal primaries.

Since the coalition’s unveiling in July, it has attracted some defections. However, key figures such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar have yet to formally join the ADC, despite their involvement in coalition activities.

The ruling APC, through its Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, remained unfazed, describing the development as part of Nigeria’s fluid political culture.

“People are free to realign. We’re gaining new members by the day and remain confident of our strength ahead of 2027,” he told The PUNCH.

In contrast, PDP’s Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, welcomed the directive as a healthy political filter.

“Let Nigerians decide what they stand for. The PDP is not worried.

There are millions of voters yet to pick sides.”

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) echoed a similar sentiment, with spokesperson Ladipo Johnson drawing a football analogy: “This is like a transfer window. People move, but we expect to gain more than we lose.”

Meanwhile, the ADC intensified its grassroots mobilisation, particularly in Ogun State, where former party chairman Ralph Nwosu, speaking during a coalition convergence, echoed former President Obasanjo’s prophecy that the ADC would take power in 2027.

Highlighting Nigeria’s economic struggles under APC rule, Nwosu said, “The ADC is ready to wipe the tears from the faces of Nigerians. Nothing can stop us if we remain focused.”

ADC leaders urged Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and rally behind the coalition.

The party’s state chairman in Ogun, Femi Soluade, declared the time was ripe to end “mismanagement and neglect” and build a country that truly works for its citizens.

As the ADC Coalition 2027 Elections strategy unfolds, political watchers say the party’s biggest hurdle remains consolidating its growing support base into formal defections, party loyalty, and a clear nationwide agenda.
