The N58 billion addition brings the state’s total budget for the 2025 fiscal year to a record N756.3 billion, marking a significant increase in government spending aimed at accelerating infrastructure and development projects.
Presenting the committee’s findings, Chairman Ibrahim Hamza-Adamu explained that the supplementary allocation stems from anticipated additional revenues from the federation account.
He said, “The 2025 Appropriation Law appropriated N698.3 billion for recurrent and capital expenditures.
With an additional N58 billion, the revised total now stands at N756.3 billion.”
The committee recommended that the House adopt strong oversight mechanisms to ensure that the additional funds are used strictly within the approved frameworks, targeting projects in line with the administration’s development agenda.
The deputy speaker, Sani Isiyaku, presided over the session and conducted a voice vote on the motion, which passed unanimously.
The original 2025 budget, passed on 31 December 2024 and themed “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa,” earmarked N90.7 billion for personnel costs, N70 billion for recurrent expenditures, and a substantial N537 billion for capital projects.
Additionally, the legislature approved a separate allocation of N17 billion for the state’s 27 local government councils, underscoring a commitment to grassroots development.
With the approval of the Jigawa 2025 Supplementary Budget, the state government now has broader fiscal space to scale up its initiatives in health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure, pending proper execution.
