Toyin Amuzu pledges people-centred legislation and legacy projects as PDP begins its 2027 campaign in Ogun Central
Chief Toyin Amuzu, Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, PDP candidate for Ogun Central, and Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, the party’s Ogun State governorship candidate, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, joined party supporters at Ake Palace Ground in Abeokuta as the PDP formally launched its 2027 National Assembly campaign in Ogun Central, with Amuzu promising people-centred legislation and lasting development projects for his constituents.

The campaign train moved through Ifo/Ewekoro, Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Federal Constituencies before arriving at Ake Pavilion, where the main Ogun Central rally was held.
Several reports described a strong turnout, with supporters lining streets and gathering at campaign stops along the route.
Amuzu said his ambition was centred on providing quality representation and responsible legislation capable of producing a lasting impact in Abeokuta South.
“If elected, I will sponsor people-centred legislation and facilitate legacy projects that will improve the welfare and well-being of my constituents,” Amuzu said.
The candidate also pointed to community interventions undertaken through his personal initiatives, presenting the projects as part of his record of engagement with residents.
He promised to expand such interventions and pursue additional development projects if elected to the House of Representatives.
Amuzu further urged voters to remain at their polling units after voting to witness the counting process and protect their ballots.
The message formed part of a wider appeal by PDP leaders for supporters to remain actively involved in the electoral process rather than leaving immediately after casting their votes.
Adebutu, who is seeking to become Ogun State governor, called on voters in Ogun Central to support Amuzu, Obasanjo and other PDP candidates.
He described the candidates as tested and trusted representatives and urged voters to reject what he characterised as non-performance.
Adebutu also called for a strong turnout on January 16, 2027, and urged PDP supporters to resist intimidation and stand by their votes.
Obasanjo, meanwhile, reflected on her previous period of representation in the senatorial district.
She said residents had continued to remind her of projects and interventions associated with her earlier tenure in the Senate.
The former senator said those recollections had strengthened her resolve to seek another mandate, promising to do more for residents of Ogun Central and improve their access to the dividends of democracy.
The campaign comes as the PDP seeks to rebuild its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Ogun Central mobilisation covered the district’s three federal constituencies and featured candidates at the senatorial and House of Representatives levels.
For Amuzu, the campaign provides an opportunity to frame his bid around practical representation, community development and legislation, while the broader PDP campaign is positioning its candidates as an alternative to the governing political establishment in Ogun State.

The sizeable turnout reported across the campaign route offers an encouraging early signal for the party, although the eventual electoral contest will depend on sustained grassroots mobilisation, voter confidence and the ability of candidates to translate campaign promises into a credible political programme.
