Accord Party Osun detention allegation emerges as the party claims member Popoola Alaba was held despite no evidence linking him to wrongdoing
Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Accord Party Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State, has alleged that Inspector-General of Police Mr Olatunji Disu ordered the continued detention of party member Popoola Alaba despite claims that investigators found no evidence linking him to any offence.

Olajengbesi made the allegation during an interview on ARISE News while reacting to Alaba’s arrest amid rising political activity ahead of the Osun governorship election.
The Accord Party spokesperson claimed that allegations suggesting Alaba was arrested with firearms were not supported by findings from officers handling the investigation.
“Those allegations are embarrassing to the knowledge of the Nigerian Police. The man that was arrested was arrested with nothing. He was arrested at the point where he was sensitising his supporters,” Olajengbesi said.
He questioned why authorities had not publicly presented evidence if firearms or other unlawful materials were allegedly recovered from the party member.
“The Nigerian Police should have ordinarily come out and shown to the public the evidence or whatever material they had relating to possession of firearms,” he added.
According to Olajengbesi, members of the Accord Party campaign council met with investigators involved in the case, who allegedly informed them that there was no petition against Alaba and that no incriminating items were recovered.
“We’ve met with the officers in charge of the investigation and they have said to us that there’s no petition against the man and nothing was found on him, but it is just very unfortunate that they have instructions from the Inspector-General of Police to detain him until further notice,” he alleged.
The party described the situation as concerning, calling on the Nigeria Police Force to clarify the circumstances surrounding Alaba’s detention and make any available evidence public.
The allegation comes as political parties intensify preparations for the Osun governorship election, with security concerns and allegations of political tension becoming part of the wider campaign environment.
Olajengbesi urged the police and media organisations to examine the matter and establish whether the claims against Alaba were supported by evidence.

As of the time of reporting, the Nigeria Police Force had not publicly responded to the allegations made by the Accord Party spokesperson.
