Wike’s PDP Faction Rejects Oyo Court Ruling on Ibadan Convention

The faction of the PDP loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike dismisses the Oyo State High Court ruling affirming Turaki’s leadership

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected the Oyo State High Court ruling affirming the Tanimu Turaki-led leadership and validating the Ibadan National Convention, describing it as inconsequential.

The PDP caretaker committee, headed by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, issued a statement via National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed on Friday, maintaining that the November 2025 convention remains invalid.

The statement highlighted that prior decisions by the Federal High Court had barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from attending or monitoring the process, making the Oyo State High Court’s ruling largely ineffective.

“The judgment reportedly delivered by the Oyo State High Court is an inconsequential development and is best described as a mere academic exercise. The court that delivered today’s judgment had previously granted an interim order permitting Mr Damagum and others to hold their Amala Convention on November 15 and 16, 2025, despite two valid Federal High Court judgments. So, this is not news,” the statement read.

The faction also noted that INEC was neither joined nor represented in the suit, and the court later struck out INEC’s name after the commission challenged the court’s jurisdiction.

This position signals an ongoing internal dispute within the PDP, reflecting the party’s fragmented state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
