FCT Minister Wike’s victory in recent FCT and Rivers State elections highlights his political strength while signaling a setback for the ADC ahead of 2027
Lere Olayinka, spokesman to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hailed Wike’s victory in last Saturday’s elections, describing it as a loss for the opposition, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Olayinka made the remarks in reaction to the elections in the FCT and Rivers State, pointing to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in two Rivers State House of Assembly seats during by-elections as evidence of Wike’s political influence.
According to Olayinka, the election outcomes reaffirmed Wike’s political mettle and underscored the dominance of the ruling party.
“Wike deserves the accolade because he showed class and purpose in the polls in FCT and Rivers. APC cleared the two House of Assembly seats contested in the Rivers by-election. How else can a politician prove his mettle?” Olayinka wrote on Facebook.
He added that Wike described the poll results as a “clearcut statement on the status and stature of the ruling party and the real opposition,” while challenging ADC-led coalition members to reassess their strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement reflects Wike’s confidence and sends a strong signal to opposition parties about the political realities leading into next year’s polls.
