Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is a Nigerian physician and accomplished politician who served as the Governor of Delta State for two terms, from May 2015 to May 2023.
A graduate of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ibadan, his career began in healthcare before he transitioned into public service.
Okowa’s political journey is marked by a steady ascent through various levels of governance. He served as Secretary to Ika Local Government Area and later as Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council.
He held multiple commissioner portfolios in Delta State, including Agriculture, Water Resources, and Health.
Before his governorship, he represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate from 2011 to 2015, where he chaired the Committee on Health.
As Governor, Okowa implemented the “SMART Agenda,” focusing on strategic wealth creation, peace-building, agricultural reforms, and urban renewal.
His administration is particularly recognized for extensive road infrastructure development, earning him the moniker “Road Master.”
He also prioritized human capital development, establishing new technical colleges and universities, and championing a contributory health insurance scheme for Delta State residents.
In 2023, he was the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).9
