PRP alleges a plot to divide the party ahead of the 2027 elections, accusing former members and serving officials of attempting to weaken its ranks
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to destabilise its ranks, weaken its electoral prospects and undermine efforts to build a credible opposition coalition ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The party accused some former members and servi
ng officials of allegedly working to create divisions within its ranks and sabotage its grassroots support.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the PRP National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, alleged that those behind the scheme planned to deploy hundreds of millions of naira to influence members and establish a faction within the party.
However, the party did not identify the individuals allegedly involved or provide evidence to substantiate the claims in the statement.
Baba-Ahmed urged party members and the public to resist what he described as attempts to undermine the organisation, particularly efforts by unauthorised individuals to recruit polling agents in the party’s name.
He alleged that substantial sums of money could be used to persuade members to support opposition candidates outside the party’s approved arrangements.
“In particular, attempts to recruit polling agents for the party by persons with no authority to do so should be resisted. Huge amounts of money may be available to buy members’ support for opposition candidates by party officials. These efforts should be resisted and exposed,” the chairman said.
The PRP leader also warned serving party officials allegedly involved in the scheme that they could face disciplinary action.
He called on individuals associated with the ruling party who were allegedly involved to distance themselves from attempts to create a faction within the PRP.
“The persons in the governing party involved in this scheme have been advised to steer clear of the PRP and distance themselves from attempts to create a faction with their party’s funds and their names. Serving officers of the Party involved in this scheme will face disciplinary measures,” Baba-Ahmed added.
The chairman assured the party’s candidates and supporters that its leadership remained committed to protecting the organisation’s unity and preserving members’ loyalty.
He also reiterated the PRP’s determination to challenge the continuation of the current administration beyond 2027.
According to him, the party would sustain its participation in efforts to build an opposition coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in the next general election.
The allegations come amid growing political realignments and negotiations among opposition parties seeking alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ability of opposition groups to maintain internal unity and agree on a common political strategy is expected to influence their prospects in the forthcoming contest.
