Lagos APC Council Candidates Unveiled Amid Tight Security

Tension trails unveiling of Lagos APC council candidates as tight security surrounds party headquarters and reconciliation efforts continue

Lagos APC council candidates were officially unveiled on Monday under a tight security atmosphere at the party’s secretariat in Ogba, Lagos State, marking the formal launch of campaigns ahead of the July 12 local government elections.

The unveiling ceremony, which follows weeks of internal party conflict over the May 10 primary election, drew visible security presence including police officers and a patrol van stationed at the entrance of the venue.

The state Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Seye Oladejo, confirmed the event in a brief statement, noting that it would also serve as the party’s campaign flag-off.

Despite the event’s significance, the mood within the party remains tense. Many aspirants across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas have expressed dissatisfaction over alleged imposition of candidates, leading to multiple protests.

In response, the party leadership constituted a reconciliation committee in June to address grievances and rebuild internal cohesion.

We must unite for victory and build a people-first administration.

Princess Surah Animashaun, APC’s chairmanship candidate in Epe and the current council boss, urged party members to set aside their differences and rally behind the party’s ticket.

She dismissed the notion of widespread manipulation during the primaries, asserting that the process adhered to the party’s guidelines for direct voting.

“There was no problem. It is normal for people to be aggrieved, but there was nowhere a candidate was imposed or shortchanged,” she stated, adding that the method used was transparent and inclusive.

Speaking from Epe, Animashaun explained that her renewed bid is focused on deepening grassroots engagement, especially among youths and women, while ensuring that the people have a say in governance.

“I know my people and the challenges they face. Before any decision or project is executed, we will consult widely, so everyone is carried along,” she said.
