Wike’s position was conveyed in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
According to the statement, a social media post had claimed that the minister urged Adamawa residents to make informed decisions at the ballot, adding that he considered Abbo the most suitable candidate to lead the state.
However, Wike dismissed the purported endorsement, insisting that he had neither declared support for Abbo nor backed any Labour Party candidate in Adamawa.
“The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has described as fake, report on the social media indicating his support for the Labour Party, LP, Governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Ishaku Abbo,” the statement said.
The minister also maintained that he had no relationship with the Labour Party or any of its candidates in Adamawa State.
He urged residents to disregard the social media report, stressing that he would personally announce his preferred candidate if and when he decided to declare support for anyone.
Wike’s response followed the circulation of the purported endorsement online, which attributed comments supporting Abbo to the minister.
By publicly rejecting the claim, the FCT minister sought to distance himself from the political message ahead of the Adamawa governorship contest.
