2027: Alli Faults Makinde Over Fresh N100bn Oyo Loan

Sharafadeen Alli faults Makinde’s N100bn loan approval in Oyo, warning that the borrowing could worsen the state’s debt burden

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 election, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has criticised the state House of Assembly’s approval of a fresh N100bn loan for Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, describing the move as an attempt to push the state further into debt.

Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said the borrowing raised concerns about the state’s financial future and the burden that could be left for the next administration.

He made his position known in a statement signed by the Director of his campaign organisation, Bisi Oladele, and made available to journalists on Wednesday.

The Oyo State House of Assembly reportedly approved the N100bn loan on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Reacting to the approval, Alli faulted both the governor and the lawmakers, arguing that there was no sufficient justification for the fresh borrowing.

He said the decision was particularly concerning as Makinde’s administration approached the end of its tenure.

“The governor’s determination to plunge Oyo State further into debt, even as his administration approaches its terminal date, raises serious questions about his intentions and the financial burden he is preparing to leave behind for the incoming government,” the statement said.

Alli’s criticism centres on the potential implications of additional borrowing for the state’s finances and the responsibilities that could fall on the administration that succeeds Makinde.

The APC candidate also questioned the Assembly’s decision to approve the loan, insisting that the state’s financial commitments required closer scrutiny.

The latest development adds to the political exchanges between the APC and the ruling administration in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

However, the statement provided no detailed breakdown of the proposed loan’s terms, intended uses or repayment arrangements. Makinde’s administration’s response to Alli’s criticism was not included in the report.
