Hope Uzodimma is the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Nigeria, a position he has held since January 15, 2020. His ascension to the governorship was a result of a Supreme Court ruling that overturned the election of the then-incumbent governor.
Born on December 12, 1958, Uzodimma has a long and varied political career. He began in the Second Nigerian Republic as a youth leader for the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in Imo State. After the return to democracy in 1999, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), serving in various capacities including a member of the National Caucus and Board of Trustees. He later moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prior to his governorship, Uzodimma served two terms as a Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District from 2011 to 2019, where he notably chaired the Senate Committee on Customs and Excise. As Governor, his administration has focused on infrastructure development, urban renewal, and initiatives in digital transformation, including the “Skillup Imo Program” for youth empowerment. He also serves as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the umbrella body for APC governors.
