The president described the opposition African Democratic Congress as a “coalition of confusion” while addressing party leaders and stakeholders.
Tinubu’s statement comes amid growing defections from opposition parties, including the ADC, to the APC.
Observers believe his comment was a direct response to the recent political shifts.
“It’s not a bad idea to abandon a sinking ship,” Tinubu said, adding that the APC welcomes all Nigerians who share its ideals and commitment to national progress.
The president also praised Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past APC National Chairman, for his loyalty and service.
He noted Ganduje’s work in setting up the framework for a progressive institute to strengthen the party’s ideology.
Tinubu proposed that Ganduje continue supporting the APC’s new leadership as a consultant.
He said the party’s secretary and new chairman would take the lead in revitalising the initiative.
In another major announcement, Tinubu confirmed the postponement of the APC’s upcoming Ward, Local Government and State Congresses until December.
He explained that the delay would allow new members to fully integrate and participate in the party’s grassroots structure.
The NEC meeting also confirmed the appointment of Prof Nentawe Yiltwada, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, as the new APC National Chairman.
He replaces Ganduje, who resigned from the position in June. Tinubu concluded with a call for unity, reform and broader inclusion.
