Atiku Criticises Tinubu’s Failed Leadership, 2027 Election Obsession

Atiku criticises Tinubu for fixating on 2027 elections while neglecting insecurity, poverty, and economic hardship across Nigeria under his leadership

Atiku criticises Tinubu over what he described as a troubling lack of focus on Nigeria’s urgent problems, accusing the President of prioritising a 2027 re-election campaign despite offering little in return for his 2023 mandate.

The former Vice President, in a statement released by his media aide Paul Ibe, said President Bola Tinubu’s preoccupation with political attacks and opposition defections is a distraction from pressing national challenges like insecurity and economic collapse.

“Attacking the opposition has now become his favourite pastime — even while the country burns under his watch,” Atiku stated.

He added, “Tinubu should first sort out the obvious rift between himself and Vice President Kashim Shettima and the broken Nigerian economy before poking his nose into the affairs of the ADC.”

The remarks followed Tinubu’s comments during the APC chairman’s inauguration, where he labelled opposition parties “sinking ships” and predicted more defections.

Atiku fired back, accusing the presidency of sponsoring internal conflicts in rival parties and attempting to create a one-party state.

The statement claimed Tinubu has weaponised anti-corruption agencies to intimidate critics and force defections to the APC, rather than confronting hunger, insecurity, and poverty head-on.

“While Nigerians grapple with worsening insecurity, hunger, and poverty, Tinubu is busy playing petty politics,” Atiku noted, adding, “He fears the Coalition. He knows it is the Coalition that will send him packing — either back to Bourdillon or Iragbiji.”
