Tinubu Declares Nigeria Out of Economic Uncertainty, Urges Youth and Poverty Empowerment

President Bola Tinubu on Monday declared that Nigeria has emerged from economic uncertainty, assuring governors and religious leaders of his administration’s commitment to delivering tangible relief to citizens.

Speaking at an interfaith breaking of fast with governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu said the country had exited “the dark tunnel of uncertainty” and was showing positive economic signals.

“We are out of the woods. Out of the dark tunnel of uncertainty. The economy is showing up,” he said, emphasising optimism about Nigeria’s recovery.

The President used the occasion, coinciding with the Muslim Ramadan and Christian Lent seasons, to urge leaders to prioritise policies that empower young people, reduce poverty, and strengthen grassroots development.

“I am determined to rescue this country. And as long as we work together in delivering hope to our citizens, the best is yet to come for Nigeria,” he declared.

Tinubu noted that fasting and penitence for both faiths symbolise discipline, sacrifice, and shared humanity, urging leaders to reflect these values in governance.

“To reach the young man who feels forgotten. To lift the woman who carries her family on tired shoulders. To touch the communities at the grassroots, where hope sometimes flickers. Development must not recognise religion. Compassion must not recognise tribe. Opportunity must not recognise status,” he said.

On insecurity, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to establishing state police to restore safety and strengthen economic confidence.

“What I promise you will not be postponed. We will establish a state police to combat insecurity. Security is the foundation of prosperity. Without it, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace,” he said.

He further highlighted the need for bold reforms and national unity. “We must be bold enough to reform what is not working. We must be united enough to protect what we hold dear,” he said.

Tinubu also praised the convergence of Ramadan and Lent as a reminder of national unity and commended Babagana Zulum for extending Ramadan outreach to both Muslims and Christians.

Speaking for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma described the overlapping fasting seasons as divinely inspired, encouraging leaders to prioritise the welfare of the less privileged.

Concluding, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s path to recovery: “There are lots of gains and commendations coming from all angles. As long as we stay together, work together, and are determined to rescue this country, the best is yet to come for Nigeria.”
