Sowore Outlines Radical Plan to Tackle Terrorism with Drone Technology

Sowore drone defence plan unveiled as AAC candidate proposes drone warfare and central control system to fight insecurity in Nigeria

Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, on Thursday, 29 May 2026, in Abuja outlined a radical security proposal in which he vowed to deploy drones as part of Nigeria’s defence strategy if elected president in 2027.

AAC presidential candidate made the remarks during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he argued that modern technology, intelligence gathering and coordinated operations would be central to his approach to tackling insecurity.

Sowore drone defence plan was presented as part of a broader security vision aimed at combating banditry and terrorism through advanced surveillance systems and real-time threat monitoring.

He said his administration would establish a central control centre designed to track security threats and coordinate rapid responses against criminal networks operating across the country.

Sowore stated that drones would play a key role in this system, describing them as a critical tool for surveillance and operational intelligence in the fight against insecurity.

According to him, the proposed framework would allow security agencies to detect and respond swiftly to threats, while dismantling what he described as organised criminal structures.

“In short term, we must tackle insecurity head-on by pursuing and neutralising bandits through coordinated operations backed by modern equipment and technology,” Sowore said during the interview.

He further emphasised the need for what he called accountable security leadership, arguing that Nigeria’s military and police must be restructured to prioritise strategy and efficiency over political considerations.

Sowore also suggested that addressing insecurity must go beyond military operations, stressing the importance of job creation, education and social stability in reducing vulnerability to crime and violence.

“If I become President of Nigeria, my Minister of Defence would be a drone,” he said, adding that the technology would be central to his proposed security architecture.
