NDC Enugu governorship primary sees Prof. Ene-Nwannaji emerge candidate after a statewide vote across 17 local government areas
Professor James Ene-Nwannaji, a governorship aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Enugu State governorship election following a statewide primary election conducted across all 17 local government areas.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Enugu State, Dr. Sebastine Okafor, who confirmed that the exercise was carried out in line with directives from the party’s national secretariat.
According to Dr. Okafor, Professor Ene-Nwannaji secured victory over other contenders, including Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa and Senator Gilbert Nnaji, in a closely monitored process that was overseen by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
NDC concludes Enugu governorship primary exercise also produced candidates for senatorial and House of Representatives seats across the state, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Chika Obetta emerged as the candidate for Enugu North Senatorial District, while Dr. Mrs. Celelia Ikechukwu clinched the ticket for Enugu East Senatorial District. Barrister Mrs. Ugochi Ohajekwe secured the nomination for Enugu West Senatorial District.
For the House of Representatives, Dr. Stephen Ugwoke was announced as the candidate for Nsukka and Igboeze South Federal Constituency, while Barrister Chimezie Nwodo won the ticket for Nkanu East and West.
Other winners include Barrister Kene Nnadi for Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, Comrade Felix Ijegalu for Udi and Ezeagu Federal Constituency, and Barrister Onyebuchi Nwabueze for Igboetiti and Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency.
The party stated that remaining House of Representatives and State Assembly candidates would be announced in due course.
Reacting to the outcome, the Enugu State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Dr. Johnpaul Ani, described the primaries as peaceful, orderly and transparent, noting that the process reflects the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections.

He urged unsuccessful aspirants to accept the results in good faith and support the party’s broader objective of securing victory in the upcoming governorship contest scheduled for January 2027.
